Descritivo
A maioria dos relâmpagos acontece de nuvem para nuvem por cima das nossas cabeças. Às vezes tocam o chão e, raras vezes, assim que atingem o solo, são enviados de volta para o céu. Selvagens rasgos de luz podem causar-nos um grande choque. Os antigos oráculos cegos chamavam-lhes de visões - conceito um tanto distante e complexo de entender. Uma visão parece sugerir um processo através do qual nascem imagens que estão relacionadas com a escuta e a intuição, com o silêncio e a obscuridade e apoiam-se na crença de que natureza e os objetos do mundo não são ignorados e servem apenas um propósito utilitário, mas detém em si a opacidade de um saber diferente. Uma visão deve aparecer quando não estamos à espera, por isso precisamos de tempo para deixar que ela venha ao nosso encontro. A sua origem é o caos. Misterioso lagos por cima das nossas cabeças guardam sinais que nunca decifraremos completamente, mas se tivermos sorte, como uma fruta que cai de uma árvore diretamente para nossas mãos vazias, essas imagens emergem - incompletas e codificadas. Assim que nos atingem, sabemos que o que seguramos não é bem um fruto e sabemos que nos diz: tu também estás aqui.
Será a comunidade um desses sonhos? Lugar ao qual pertencemos antes de sabermos que pertencemos? O que sabemos nós sobre a comunidade? A Caixa Relâmpago é o primeiro de uma série de trabalhos sobre visões. Foi desenvolvido em conjunto com um grupo heterogéneo de mulheres residentes em Lisboa que perderam a visão em vida e que não se conhecem entre si. A Caixa Relâmpago deve funcionar como uma experiência solitária e uma comunidade temporária. Um acumulador de presenças humanas. Uma imagem incompleta para acessar estes fantasmas dentro de nós.

Descriptive
Most flashes happen from cloud to cloud up above our heads. Sometimes they fall down to earth and on rare occasions as soon as they hit the ground they are sent back up again. Wild gleams of light can cause great shock. The ancient blind oracles called it visions, which nowadays might be a difficult concept to grasp. It suggests a process through which images are born that is related to listening and intuition, to silence and darkness and to a concept where the world’s nature and objects are not objectified and ignored, instead they hold the opacity of a different knowledge. A vision should appear when we are not expecting it, so we need time to let it come to us. Its origin is chaos. Mysterious lakes above us hold signals that we’ll never fully decipher, but if we are lucky, as a fruit that falls from a tree directly to our empty hands, these images emerge, incomplete and codified. As soon as it reaches us, we know it is not quite a fruit and we know it tells us: you are here, too.
Is community one of such dreams? A passage where we belong before we know we do? What do we know about it? The Flash Box is the first of a series of works on visions. It was developed together with a heterogeneous group of women residing in Lisbon who lost their eyesight during their life and who do not know each other. It should work as a solitary experience and a temporary community. An accumulator of human presences. An incomplete image
to access these ghosts within us.

In a reality where the production and the dissemination of images often serve hidden agendas, The
Happy Death of Images presents several artists that lead and form temporary communities of critical
spectators and makers, around and inside ephemeral images. This exhibition brings you several
works by international artists, that are focused on the celebration of doing, looking and capturing
single images together. All works have in common the use of the ends and beginnings of photography
– in its liminality and ever changing potential of gazing at the world. Can a collective action be an
image? Is an image ever still? Why do we need so many images? Do we need strong images to be
solidary with each other?
Artists: Basia Budniak, Brave Boy Studio, Nico Baumgarten, Demelza Watts, João Ferro Martins,
Isadora Alves, Graeme Miller, Joanna Dyba and others
Curators: Bruno Humberto, Franek Ammer
Isadora Alves presents us with the one-at-the-time-only installation Flash Box, the first from a series of works she will do around the theme of visions. The relationship between a single recorded voice with a single person, (within the composition of the sculpture that can resemble a confession booth to an amplified version of an aeroplane black box) sets the conditions for the relationship and creation of a very delicate community of listeners, blinded by a common (and always personal) vision.
